Is your candle tunneling? Here are a few options for a quick fix
So you've recently purchased a candle and it started tunneling, which is what happens when a candle burns down its center to the bottom and leaves hard wax around the edges.
When this happens you're actually missing out on the full burning and scent potential of your candle. So here are a few ways you can fix your candles.
1. Use a Hair Dryer To Fix Minor Tunneling
If you did not allow the wax pool to reach the edge of your vessel on the first burn, you're going to be left with a candle memory which will then result in your tunneling.
If you catch it early enough, blast the top of the candle with a hair dryer on high heat.
Hold it over the top of the candle until the top layer of wax melts and smooths over and voila! Good as new.
2. Try Kitchen Foil For Deeper Holes
If your candle tunnel is much deeper from being burned a few times, it's time to pull out your kitchen tin foil. It is an easy method, but proceed carefully—the foil can get really hot. Start of by lighting your candle. Then, carefully wrap a layer of foil around the top of the candle, making a dome with a hole in the top, as seen below. This will allow the heat to stay within the candle and melt the edge of hard wax on all the sides. After about an hour or so, carefully remove the foil and you should have an even wax pool. When trying this method, please be careful and make sure you do not leave your candle unattended to.
